Amsterdam, Netherlands

Amsterdam isn’t just a destination, it’s a feeling. With Celebrity Cruises, you’ll step straight into the city’s iconic charm, from the cobbled streets of the Jordaan district, lined with boutiques and Canalside cafés, to a warm slice of Dutch apple pie paired with perfect coffee. Explore the Van Gogh Museum for an intimate look at the artist’s turbulent genibraus, or take in cutting-edge exhibits at the Stedelijk. Drift through the city on a canal that reveals Amsterdam from an entirely new point of view. As night falls, the options widen, whether it's a world-class concert at the Concertgebouw or a cozy evening in a candlelit pub, this is a city that’s easy to immerse yourself deeply in.
Travel Tips
1
Biking is the traditional mode of transportation here, so do like the locals and explore the city on two wheels. There are typically stands where you can hail a taxi, but unlike other cities, you can’t hail a taxi just anywhere. Otherwise, it’s fairly easy to walk on foot around the city center to see Amsterdam’s most important sights.
2
There’s not a ton of shopping near the cruise port, but you should leave time before your cruise from Amsterdam to go shopping in the city center to grab local items like Dutch pottery and Amsterdam-themed souvenirs. Look for fashion boutiques and daily markets like Albert Cuypmarkt or Westermarkt for clothing. There are both daily and weekly markets scattered all over the city, where local food vendors and antique sellers offer unique finds for all tastes.
3
The official currency of the Netherlands is the euro, and you’ll find that credit cards are accepted in most places. Your best bet is using Visa or Mastercard. ATMs are plentiful, too. Some smaller shops and restaurants will only accept debit cards with a pin code. When it comes to tipping, leave a 10% tip at restaurants, or 5% if you’re ordering a coffee or snack. For taxi drivers, it’s polite to round up to the nearest euro, or tip 5% to 10% of your fare.

Day at Sea Highlights

Alesund, Norway

Alesund’s turrets, spires, and other whimsical art nouveau architectural touches give the town its distinctive, fairytale-like character. On your cruise to Alesund, don’t forget to visit scenic Geiranger Fjord. One of Norway’s best-known attractions is just a stone’s throw from this quaint little town. Ages of glacial erosion have given way to sculpted, towering mountainsides upon which flow numerous, dramatic waterfalls. There is no shortage of nature to stand in awe of at this favorite Norway attraction. To fully capture the depth of beauty in this seaside town, a jaunt up Mount Aksla is in order. From there, you’ll have a bird’s-eye view of this colorful, magical place. Drive the famous Path of Trolls, a roadway that was literally blasted out of the mountainside. Travel back to Viking days and discover exotic marine life on this exploration of the Saga Islands. Begin on Giske, where you’ll walk in the footsteps of Viking legends then continue to the island of Godoy to visit the Atlantic Sea Park. Built directly into the rugged landscape, it features massive aquariums teeming with colorful fish and sea life.
Travel Tips
1
Once you get into the city center on your Alesund fjord cruise, many attractions are a short 15- to 20-minute walk away. When cruises come through town, there are frequently operating hop-on/hop-off buses to take you to various tourist sights around town. Local taxi operators are available but can be expensive because there are limited taxis available during high volume periods. The local bus system is extensive and how many who live in Alesund get around. There’s a bus station not far from the cruise terminal, which is an easy way to get started in navigating to the center of the city.
2
Because you’re geographically very close to the downtown area when you arrive on your Alesund cruise, it’s easy to snuff out the city’s best shopping. The cobblestoned Kongens Gate Street offers a variety of vintage and antique shopping, plus hand-blown glass goods for sale. You’ll quickly feel at home shopping alongside locals for souvenirs and thrifted treasures to bring back with you. When you need a break, pop into one of the local bakeries or cafes for a treat and a coffee.
3
The official currency of Norway is the krone (kr), and credit cards are widely accepted in Norway. There are plenty of ATMs, called “mini-banks,” scattered around Alesund. Bargaining and haggling isn’t common practice in Norway, so it’s unlikely you can catch a deal on a souvenir or market items. Tipping in Norway isn’t common either, but it’s very polite, especially if you’ve received great service. A service charge is typically already included in your restaurant bill, so there’s no need to tip additionally when you eat out.

Skjolden, Norway

Skjolden, Norway- Skjolden is the innermost port of Norway, located at the head of the longest navigable fjord in the world, Sognefjord. The village population may average 200, but its terrain is far from quaint. Experience the grand and pristine beauty of the north on your Skjolden cruise. The Breheimen National Park, home to three majestic glaciers and Feigumfossen Waterfall
in an idyllic setting on the southern side of the Lusterfjord are only a few of the scenic attractions you’ll find here. Take the short walk into the falls or admire the view from the National Tourist Route on the northern side of the fjord. For the outdoors-y type that wants to take in a great hike, take the Rv55, one of Norway's most scenic roadways, to the pristine fishing waters of Eidsvatnet lake. For more breathtaking scenery, head just a bit north to the Mørkridsdalen Valley where verdant mountains surround fields of colorful wildflowers and rushing streams.

Molde, Norway

Discover Molde, a charming city in Norway known among locals as “the town of roses.” In Molde, you’ll find yourself surrounded by spectacular landscapes, blooming gardens, and the sound of jazz music, Hike up to the Varden Viewpoint and take in the magnificent scenery of the Molde Panorama, where 222 snow-capped mountains and the sparkling fjord in the distance are sure to take your breath away. Explore some of the nearby islands and natural wonders, such as the ridge of Romsdalseggen and the winding road of Trollstigen, an impressive roadway that is part of the Norwegian Scenic Route.
Travel Tips
1
At the cruise port, you’ll be able to hail a taxi or board the public Molde bus service. The city’s center is easily walkable, and the surrounding hills all have hiking trails that range from easy to more advanced. You can also rent a bicycle and navigate the city on two wheels.
2
Most of the shopping you’ll find in Molde consists of small stores selling local goods. Search for gifts and souvenirs in these cozy boutiques and bring back a few regional products like goods made from pewter or enamel, along with handmade souvenirs.
3
The local currency in Molde is the Norwegian krone. Credit cards are widely accepted in most stores and restaurants, although Norway requires a valid ID when using a credit card. Tipping is not typical, but if you experience great service and would like to leave something, rounding up the bill is always a nice gesture.

Olden, Norway

Much of this picturesque town, located at the tip of the Nordfjord, looks as though it is straight out of the 17th century. Its many historic sites include Olden Old Church, built in 1759 on the site of the original stave church dating back to the 14th century, and the Singer Home, former residence of American painter William Singer. Nature lover? Explore the lush, verdant scenery of Lake Olden and experience its tranquility on a relaxing sightseeing cruise. Want something more adventurous? On your Europe cruise, trek through the Norwegian wild to Briksdal Glacier, an arm of the largest glacier in continental Europe. You'll hike along river paths and see gentle waterfalls created by the melting ice.
Travel Tips
1
Passengers on cruises to Olden will find that the easiest way to explore beyond the town center is on a shore excursion. You won’t find local buses, since Olden’s town center is so close to the cruise pier. If you wish to go farther afield independently, a taxi is your best bet. There is also a car rental company in town with limited inventory, so reserve in advance if you wish to rent a car.
2
It’s too beautiful here to spend all your time shopping, but if you want to get a souvenir to remember your time in Olden by, then your best bet is to head to Riccovero for Scandinavian fashion or Skogstad for children’s clothing. You’ll also find more traditional souvenirs being sold in the terminal.
3
The currency used in Norway is called the Norwegian Kroner (NOK). Credit cards are also widely accepted, especially Visa and Mastercard. You’ll find that service charges and tips are usually already included on restaurant bills and taxi fares. It is common practice to tip more in upscale restaurants, with 5% being the norm and 10% considered generous.
