Walk around the charming neighborhood of Alfama, where you’ll want to take pictures of the colorful buildings and terracotta tiles. Squeeze in a coffee break and snack on the local pasteis de nata. Finish off your day by watching a live Fado show, a moving experience full of melancholic music.

Cannes, France

Get swept up in the glamour of Cannes, best known as the home to the ritzy annual film festival. Feel like a Hollywood star as you walk down the airy La Croisette promenade, where you can shop at upscale boutiques or people-watch in an outdoor cafe. Head to one of the surrounding beaches and swim in the cool Mediterranean Sea. Go on a scenic drive to other seaside towns in the French Riviera, including Antibes, Nice, and Monaco.

Valencia, Spain

With its futuristic buildings, sprawling green parks, golden sand beaches, and Gothic cathedrals, Valencia has a little something for everyone. Visit L'Oceanografic, the largest marine park in Europe, during a stop at the City of Arts and Science, a striking complex designed by Calatrava. Go shopping for gifts and local items at the Mercado Central. Don’t leave without ordering one of the city’s famous paellas Valencianas.
