Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida

When you sail to the Caribbean from Cape Canaveral, it’s worth arriving a day or two earlier to experience everything there is to see and do. Check out the charming lifestyle of nearby Cocoa Beach. Work on your tan before your cruise at one of the oceanfront resorts. Enjoy local seafood at the numerous rustic restaurants located on the water. Climb the four-story Exploration Tower at the Port for one of the best views of the ocean. Plus, no stay in Cape Canaveral is complete without visiting the area’s main attraction, the Kennedy Space Center, where you can meet an astronaut or even watch a rocket launch. Or since you’re less than an hour away from Orlando, you can visit the nearby theme parks to add even more wonder to your unforgettable Caribbean vacation.
Travel Tips
1
A rental car gives you the freedom to explore as you please and is a good idea if you’re staying in the area before or after your cruise. All the major companies operate here. In downtown Orlando, the I-Ride Trolley runs back and forth along International Drive, giving access to multiple restaurants, shops, hotels, and other attractions. In Port Canaveral itself, there’s a shuttle service to Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island. You’ll also find rideshare service here.
2
You’ll find an abundance of shopping opportunities in Orlando, specifically on International Drive, at Disney Springs, and in the outlet malls. You’ll find everything from designer labels to factory outlet bargains. Nearer Port Canaveral, visit Cocoa Village for local art and bright, whimsical tropical clothing and homeware. Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach sells all you need for surfing. The gift shop at the Kennedy Space Center is a fantastic place for quirky gift ideas, from freeze-dried ice cream to model rocket kits. Around 30 minutes from the port, The Avenue Viera is an open-air retail center with some big names, while Merritt Square Mall, just 15 minutes away, is great for big department stores and specialty shopping.
3
The currency in Florida is the U.S. Dollar. Credit cards are widely accepted. Tipping here is customary, as it is all over the United States. Leave 15-20% in restaurants for good service and tip taxi drivers and tour guides, too.

Nassau, Bahamas

Bustling markets and tranquil beaches define the vibrant spirit of Nassau, the capital of The Bahamas. Just three blocks from the port, the Nassau Straw Market brims with vendors, shoppers, and pirates, offering authentic local crafts. Minutes away, expansive white-sand beaches with turquoise waters and coral reefs beckon, perfect spots for observing sharks, swimming with dolphins, or enjoying water slides for the young and young at heart.

A short ferry ride takes you to Paradise Island, home to the legendary Atlantis Resort. Here, you can explore the mythical streets at Ruins Lagoon, walk through underwater shark tunnels at Predator Lagoon, or make a personal connection with gentle dolphins at Dolphin Cay, an accredited marine habitat featuring an 11-acre lagoon, sandy beaches, and interactive experiences.

Starting December 2025, elevate your Nassau visit at the new Royal Beach Club℠ Paradise Island by Royal Caribbean. Spend the day at this exclusive, all-inclusive retreat with private cabanas, swim-up bars, and mouthwatering cuisine. Beach day is redefined with some of the best food, cocktails, beaches, and pools in The Bahamas.

For a relaxing island escape, hop to Blue Lagoon Island for sunbathing and dolphin encounters. Or browse Nassau’s duty-free shops and Straw Market on Bay Street, where artisans craft traditional straw hats and artwork using centuries-old techniques. Savor Nassau’s fresh seafood, including fried snapper and grouper, conch dishes, and more. Round out your experience with rum-based beverages to enjoy an authentic Bahamian adventure.

Travel Tips
1
There are plenty of ways to get around Nassau. Taxis are plentiful, while car rental is available, although you’d need to get used to driving on the left. Scooters and ATVs are also available. Water taxis and ferries ply the waters between Nassau and Paradise Island, a journey of around 10 minutes. Local buses are called jitneys and are an affordable way to get around; wave at the jitney to stop it and pay on exit. You’ll need some small change in Bahamian dollars for this.
2
There are craft and souvenir vendors at the cruise terminal, and for more retail therapy, downtown Nassau is just a 10- to 15-minute walk from the port. The famous Nassau Straw Market is ideal for haggling for conch jewelry and handwoven straw bags. For more upscale shopping, Bay Street has high-end fashion and duty-free goods. There are multiple retail possibilities at Atlantis on Paradise Island, too; Crystal Court is where you’ll find big-name international designers—think of it as the Rodeo Drive of the Bahamas.
3
The currency of the Bahamas is the Bahamian dollar (BSD). It’s pegged to the U.S. Dollar at 1:1, so the two are interchangeable, and your U.S. currency will be accepted here. You may, however, be given change in Bahamian dollars. Tipping in the Bahamas is similar to the United States. Restaurants tend to include a service charge of up to 15%, but an additional cash gratuity is always welcome. Don’t forget to leave a tip for taxi drivers, at least 15% of the fare. Haggling isn’t common, but you can bargain at the local straw markets.

Day at Sea Highlights

George Town, Grand Cayman

No destination blends global finance with the Caribbean lifestyle quite like the Cayman Islands. This upscale destination offers world-class restaurants, designer boutiques, and duty-free shopping, plus white sand beaches, brilliant blue waters, and teeming coral reefs. Enjoy postcard views of George Town, Seven Mile Beach, and West Bay from the custom-designed Cayman Explorer. You can step down easily into shallow waters to interact with the welcoming stingrays.

Launch your snorkeling adventure from a luxurious catamaran. Swim right through the World War II naval vessel USS Kittiwake, now a shallow artificial reef. Finish with leisurely sunbathing and cool cocktails. Swim with the denizens of Stingray City in the crystalline waters of Coral Reef Gardens. After snorkeling with the graceful rays, recharge with an island barbecue on Seven Mile Beach. You'll shop till you drop in the duty-free boutiques of George Town. Find gifts for everyone—including yourself—like china, crystal, jewelry, antiques, and resort wear by renowned designers.

Conch shells were the homes of tasty mollusks. Try Cayman conch in salads, chowders, and fritters. Cruises to Grand Cayman Islands are not complete without a sample of the rich Caribbean curries, and don't miss the fresh produce: coconut, cassava, and plantains. For dessert, have some rum cake.
Travel Tips
1
The easiest way to get around Grand Cayman if you’re not joining a shore excursion is by taxi, and you’ll find cars waiting at the port. There’s also a local ride-sharing service, for which you’ll need to download an app. Otherwise, the island has an efficient bus network, with minibuses operating multiple routes to all the main attractions. You can wait at a bus stop or simply flag the driver down. Mopeds, bicycles, and quad bikes are available to rent, but remember that driving is on the left here.
2
George Town has a wide range of elegant shops, many specializing in high-end jewelry and luxury labels. Be on the lookout for colorful Caribbean art, antique maps, and even shipwreck coins. Local jams, spicy sauces, and rum cakes make great gifts to take home. For something really unusual, look for jewelry made from Caymanite, a gemstone that comes in a spectrum of earthy colors. It’s found only in the Cayman Islands and made into beautiful bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and cufflinks by local craftspeople.
3
The local currency in the Cayman Islands is the Cayman Islands dollar, which is pegged to the U.S. Dollar at $1.20 U.S. to $1 Cayman. Most places will display prices in both currencies. You’ll find that U.S. dollars are widely accepted, although you may be given change in local currency. There are ATMs in George Town if you need cash. Regarding tipping etiquette, meanwhile, 10% to 15% is typical in restaurants, and $5 to $10 per person for tour guides.

Day at Sea Highlights

Cozumel, Mexico

Amid the largest coral reef in the West, this Caribbean island lures anglers, divers, snorkelers, and beachgoers. Fish the flats or head out to blue water to hunt for big game—mahi-mahi, marlin, sailfish, and more. Bring your dive card with you on your cruise to Cozumel and witness all the natural wonders waiting below the surface, like neon tropical fish, swaying sea fans, and vibrant coral colonies. Or, go snorkeling to see the show without a dive card. Curl up on the beach in a hammock with a cold one. At Playa Mia, you can even fly down Twin Twister waterslides.

Go cruise shopping for beautiful Mexican silver, amber, and other artisanal gifts in San Miguel. Or, hop a ferry to charming Playa del Carmen, on the mainland, and stroll along la Quinta Avenida for more inviting restaurants, bars, and shops. Down the coast from Playa, you can explore the ancient Maya city of Tulum, perched impressively on a cliff, overlooking the brilliant sea and powdery beach below. Cozumel cuisine means fresh seafood. Savor the catch of the day served on a banana leaf, or enjoy it marinated in lime juice, cilantro, onion, and tomato. Of course, this is the place for Mexican classics like tacos, guacamole—and margaritas.
Travel Tips
1
You can rent a car while in Cozumel to get to the far reaches of the island, including some of the nature excursions and harder-to-reach parks. For daredevils, a scooter or bicycle is an exciting way to navigate the island. Helmets are required. There are plenty of taxis at the cruise terminal and around the island. Taxi drivers know their value on the island, so be sure to settle on a fare before you drive off. It’s easy to explore areas surrounding the port on foot if you feel like stretching your legs during your stop in Cozumel.
2
After you disembark from the cruise ship, particularly at International Pier, you’ll find duty-free shops and souvenir shacks before you leave the terminal. The Royal Village Shopping Center is also conveniently located near International Pier, where you can purchase handmade goods, jewelry, and other items. San Miguel has plentiful shopping, just two or three miles away from International Pier. Look out for silver jewelry, handmade ceramics, colorful hammocks, beach fashions, and papier-mache ornaments.
3
Though the local currency is the peso, many stores will accept U.S. dollars (USD), so you likely won’t need to exchange money. Find ATMs near the cruise docks for all your withdrawal needs. Tipping is encouraged, particularly for bartenders, tour guides, and restaurant service. A tip of 15-20% is recommended.
