CELEBRITY XCEL TAKES TO THE WAVES
It’s getting closer—can you feel the excitement? Celebrity Xcel, our next groundbreaking ship, completed sea trials on 13th September. Helmed by Captain ‘Kirk’ Kyriakos Matragkas, Celebrity Xcel completed a series of maneuverability skills designed to test the ship’s functional and operational capabilities near the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France, where the ship has been under construction.
Beginning in November, Celebrity Xcel will sail from Fort Lauderdale, offering seven-night itineraries alternating between The Bahamas, Mexico, Cayman Islands, and Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, and St. Maarten. In May 2026, Celebrity Xcel will go to Europe for the first time, where you’ll experience the Mediterranean like never before on seven- to 11-night journeys out of Barcelona and Athens, including all new overnight stays in Madeira, Portugal.

We’re making even more history on board Celebrity Xcel with our first-ever dual cruise directors. Meet Luigi De La Cruz and Shawna Hachey, two of the best in our fleet who are teaming up to bring their expertise to our newest ship.
MEET CELEBRITY XCEL’S CRUISE DIRECTORS
LUIGI DE LA CRUZ
Luigi was born and raised in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He earned degrees in Hotel Management and International Relations, which is one reason he has such a great time with people from all over the world. Luigi joined our team in 2010 and has more than a decade of experience on the entertainment team. The past nine years he’s made his mark as Cruise Director across every ship series in the fleet. Luigi was honoured to serve as the inaugural Cruise Director on both Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Ascent, and he’s ready to take on his next assignment aboard Celebrity Xcel. But being at sea with us isn’t Luigi’s first love. When he’s not turning up the energy on board, he’s home doing the same with his wife and two boys.
SHAWNA HACHEY
Shawna was born and raised on the east coast of Canada. Her background in theater started behind the scenes as a “wardrobe mistress” for the musical Hairspray. She soon found herself drawn to the spotlight, and in 2009 she became part of the activities team with Celebrity. It wasn’t long until Shawna became Cruise Director—the youngest woman to achieve that honor in our history. Shawna has worked on nearly every ship in our fleet. She was chosen to host both the 2024 and 2025 President’s Cruise with Celebrity Cruises President Laura Bethge Hodges, which have been some of the proudest moments in her career. She hopes to see you on board, where she’ll definitely get you dancing. After all, that’s her superpower.
