Paris (Le Havre)
It’s always a good time for Paris, as the saying goes, but cruise to France, and you’ll find it’s always a good time all around France. Our cruises take you to iconic sights of Paris as well as to the glamorous French Riviera where you’ll find ritzy beach cities and vineyard-lined countryside.
Since France is flanked by Spain to the west and Switzerland (and the rest of mainland Europe) to the east, you won’t find European cruises that visit both Paris and the French Riviera on the same itinerary. But that means you can plan two different France cruises. For Paris, look for northern Europe cruise itineraries that sail along the northern coast of Spain and France or throughout the British Isles.
Whether you’re embarking on a French Riviera cruise or a cruise to the northern coast of France will determine what you can see. Wherever you sail, though, you’ll find incredible art and architecture, and enthralling scenery.
If you love wine country and gorgeous countryside with quaint towns, you can’t miss exploring the beautiful region of Provence. Start in Aix-en-Provence for some cobblestoned city charm, and then head out into the country to see vineyards and even rolling fields of lavender.
The most iconic view in Paris is one that includes the Eiffel Tower, one of the tallest structure in the world. Paris is also home to many more famous landmarks: the pyramid entrance to the Louvre Museum, Notre Dame Cathedral, Sacré-Cœur, and the Arc de Triomphe – just to name a few.
One of the best ways to fully soak in the culture of the French Riviera is on a walk along the gorgeous promenade that stretches along the pebbly beaches of Nice. It is flanked by the gorgeous Mediterranean Sea on one side, while the other side has fabulous restaurants and upscale shops.
Whether you visit the northern shores of France or its southern shores via a French Riviera cruise, you’ll be taken to some of the most beautiful cities and countryside in Europe, with a rich history and a culture that delights all five senses.
A cruise to the French Riviera or Paris is an excellent way to visit France since it gives you convenient opportunities to take part in shore excursions. Our extensive offering of excursions will take you to all of the region’s best sites as well as provide cultural experiences.
Southern France is home to an array of quaint villages that look like something out of a fairy tale or romantic movie. Visit the medieval villages of Les Baux-de-Provence and St. Paul-de-Vence, walk along cobblestoned streets in Saint-Rémy, and gaze at the sea views from the hilltop village of Èze.
A French Riviera cruise takes you in close proximity to the divine wine regions of France. You can go wine tasting in Provence, where you’ll sip a variety of vintages while gazing at the gorgeous, vineyard-strewn countryside.
Paris isn’t the only city you can visit while in port in Le Havre. You can also take shore excursions to Normandy and learn about its significance to World War II. Off the coast of Normandy is Mont St. Michel, an abbey atop a rock overlooking the ocean that is a prime example of Norman architecture.
Another fun, hands-on way to experience the culture of France during a cruise to the French Riviera is with a parfumerie shore excursion that takes you around one of France’s famous perfume factories and during which you’ll have the chance to craft your own scent.
If your cruise to France is taking you to Paris, it’s important to know where your ship will be docking so you can plan accordingly. Paris isn’t right by the sea so your ship will actually pull into port into Le Havre, which is located about a two-and-a-half hour drive from the city center of Paris.
France is part of the European Union and the currency it accepts is the Euro. If traveling on a Europe cruise, you’ll likely visit more than one country that uses the Euro as its currency, so it’s smart to exchange some money for Euros before you leave for your cruise. However, don’t stress about needing more once over there – ATMs dispensing Euro notes are located all over the ports of call in France.
Our cruises to the French Riviera or Paris depart throughout the spring, summer, and fall months. Expect mild weather that skews toward hot in July and August.
