Luigi De La Cruz

I was honoured to be the opening Cruise Director of Celebrity Cruises’ newest ships: Celebrity BeyondSM and the gorgeous Celebrity AscentSM. There are so many distinct experiences that make our cruises extraordinary – the entertainment and activities on board our fleet are as revolutionary as the ships themselves. I love my job and get to travel to places I’ve always dreamed of seeing. My favourite destination is the Amalfi Coast. It’s quite simply magical and there’s beauty wherever you go. The island of Ibiza is another that’s close to my heart. It’s famous for its nightlife but I think it has some of the best bars you’ll find in anywhere in Europe.

Italy, France and Spain | Celebrity Ascent | 12 Nights | 2 September 2024

With an overnight in Florence, I recommend a glass of Tuscan wine on the Empireo Rooftop at the Plaza Hotel Lucchesi. It’s a lively spot in the evenings and gives you unique views over the city. I think it’s the simple things in life that bring the most pleasure. Go for a stroll in picture-perfect Santa Margherita where tree-covered mountains meet the glittering ocean and you’re surrounded by nature. It took my breath away. On board, my top tip is to experience a sunset sail away at Sunset Bar. For me, it’s one of the most iconic spots on Celebrity Ascent. There’s always live music from solo guitarists to DJs with chic lounge vibes. It’s my happy place on the ship.

St Maarten & Puerto Plata | Celebrity Eclipse | 7 Nights | 21 October 2024

I’m from the Dominican Republic, so I have to mention Puerto Plata. You can catch up on R&R at the beach or explore the oldest city on the Northern coast. There are lots of historical gems to discover like the Amber Museum or Fort San Felipe, which was built to protect the city from pirates. In San Juan, there’s a famous bar called ‘El Callejon de la Tanca’ where the Latin music is unbelievable, and the dance moves impressive. Only a few tourists know about this place – until now! One of the restaurants you must try is Tuscan Grill on board Celebrity Eclipse. My favourite table is right next to the glass windows. Take my word for it, it’s the best place to enjoy a ribeye steak on the high seas

Spain, Portugal & Mediterranean | Celebrity Apex | 13 Nights | 3 August 2024

I recommend walking along the boardwalk in Lisbon which will take you past lots of great restaurants to the iconic 25th of April bridge. I’ve been to Ibiza many times and I keep on being drawn back to ‘S’Scalinata’. It’s a small, quirky bar with delicious tapas and awesome cocktails. In Palma, everyone should go to the colourful market and stroll around the marina, which is one of the largest in Europe. At the Fine Cut Steakhouse on Celebrity Apex there is an exquisite selection of aged, dried cuts called ‘The Butcher Platter’ which is a dream come true for meat lovers. Taste it and I guarantee you won’t be able to stop thinking about it.
