And soon, we’re going even deeper into the heart of Europe with the debut of Celebrity River Cruises later this year, adding 32 new destinations in seven countries. That means more history. The recipe is coming together for the debut of Celebrity Xcel with our announcement of Godmother Janaína Torres. Her bona fides speak for themselves. The Brazilian chef and restaurateur was named “Best Female Chef in the World” last year by The World’s 50 Best Restaurants. Torres became a culinary star by crafting recipes that combine authentic flavours, locally sourced ingredients, and innovative no-waste cooking techniques, and she’s deeply passionate about next-level hospitality. That’s right. We have a lot in common, and we couldn’t have a more perfect Godmother for a ship that celebrates local cultures and brings the flavours of the world to your table like never before. As Godmother, Chef Torres will have the honor of naming Celebrity Xcel on November 16, 2025, marking the ship’s official debut. We can’t wait to welcome her—and you—aboard soon.

Hailing from the small village of Cromarty in the Scottish Highlands, crew member Lauren MacLeod and her sister used to enjoy going to the beach to wave bon voyage to cruise ships as they departed the nearby port of Invergordon.

Fast forward to today, and Lauren is a lead vocalist on Celebrity Eclipse. This summer, the stars aligned, and she enjoyed an amazing homecoming as the ship sailed past the same spot she visited as a child. Only this time, with family and friends waving from shore. 

Lauren’s mom Georgia was thrilled by the news of her daughter’s return. “We often joked about the possibility of Lauren one day performing on a ship that passed by her hometown—and this dream actually came true,” Georgia said. 

Celebrity Eclipse first passed by Cromarty on June 2nd and again on the 14th, with a final visit on August 13th. Georgia organized a big send-off to make Lauren’s last day in the area as memorable as possible. “We created banners, and got as many local folks as possible to assemble, we even had a piper playing bagpipes,” Georgia told us. The local press covered the story, and a flotilla of boats made up of Lauren’s friends and admirers went out to greet Celebrity Eclipse. Even a local women’s club, “The Mermaids,” didn’t miss the chance to make a splash. 

It was an incredible experience for all who attended, and a day Lauren will never forget. And we’re thrilled to have played a part in Lauren’s amazing homecoming.
