Karen and David have led remarkable lives—Karen as a dedicated teacher and longtime Red Cross Disaster Response volunteer, and David as a family physician and health system executive. After decades of raising three children and now enjoying nine grandchildren in Madison, Wisconsin, they never imagined their love for cruising would start so close to home. A casual chat with a neighbor—and rave reviews about their brother’s Celebrity honeymoon—sparked an idea: Why not us? With their 25th anniversary approaching, they booked a Sky Suite on Mercury for an Alaska sailing—and were instantly hooked. “I didn’t want to get off,” David told us with a laugh.
Nearly 120 cruises and 9,000 loyalty points later, they’ve become true power-cruisers. When it came time for their golden anniversary, they knew it had to be at sea—the only question was where. “Our 50th anniversary was spent on Celebrity Apex in Norway in August 2025. We were so spoiled by the entire guest team that we consider it one of our favorite voyages ever,” David said. For their milestone trip, they linked two sailings: 12 nights in Spain and Portugal, followed by 14 nights in Norway and the Arctic Circle. Highlights? A surprise party thrown by the Apex team and the unforgettable “Blue Nose” event, where crew and guests took a dip in the frigid pool.
So, what’s next for this adventurous duo? They’ve already booked 29 more sailings through March 2028, including a four-month Grand Voyage on Celebrity Solstice. And they’re dreaming even bigger—maybe pairing a repositioning cruise with a river cruise in 2027 or 2028.
David and Karen’s story is pure inspiration. We’re honored they’ve chosen us for so many celebrations, and we can’t wait to welcome them aboard for the next chapter.
