Beyond Tour Part 1
Date: March 16, 2022
As a new ship nears completion, it’s sometimes hard to imagine that everything will be ready in time. Join Captain Kate McCue for a walk through the magnificent Celebrity Beyond—and look “beyond” the wires, step ladders and hard hats to imagine just how beautiful this ship is going to be.
You’ll see the shimmering chandelier at the heart of the Grand Plaza, and the state-of-the-art theater, the stage encircled by five vast LED screens. Check out the two-deck-high Sunset Bar—a favorite spot among many Celebrity fans for sundowners. Designed by superstar interior designer Nate Berkus, it’s our most spacious Sunset Bar to date—and it won’t be long before the cocktails are being poured here.
Beyond’s Sea Trials
Date: February 8, 2022
As a new ship nears completion, it’s taken out into the open sea for what’s known as sea trials. This is when the captain and crew get to put the vessel through its paces, executing turns, stops, and other maneuvers to test speed, stability and fuel efficiency.
Captain Kate McCue, the master of Celebrity Beyond, was at the helm when Celebrity Beyond met the Atlantic Ocean for the first time, along with 50 crewmembers, engineers and nautical experts. Needless to say, the new ship passed its trials with flying colors.
The public areas of the ship, meanwhile, are taking shape, as you’ll see in this video. Look out for the pools and the iconic martini hot tubs on the Resort Deck, the gorgeous spaces on The Retreat Sundeck, and the sculptured “trees” and curved seating enclaves of the Rooftop Garden.
Beyond Captain Announced
Date: October 14, 2021
Captain Kate McCue is a familiar and much-loved face among Celebrity Cruises’ guests. As such a trailblazer, and such an inspiration to women worldwide, it’s only fitting that she’ll take the helm of the new Celebrity Beyond. Watch the video and enjoy the moment she steps onto this magnificent vessel for the first time.
Captain Kate, who first considered a career at sea aged 12, was the first American woman to captain a major cruise ship when she became captain of Celebrity Summit in 2015.
Bringing out a vessel as impressive and beautiful as Celebrity Beyond, she says, is “an absolute dream come true”. She’s captained Celebrity Edge, of course, and before that, Celebrity Equinox, as well as her first ship, Summit, but this is the first vessel on which she’s served as the “take out” captain.
As well as her obvious technical skills, Captain Kate has played a vital role in driving Celebrity’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and change. Her impressive social media presence has given her millions of followers a fascinating insight into life behind the scenes at sea. She’s a true ambassador for Celebrity Cruises.
