Celebrity Apex Makes History With Virtual Delivery Ceremony

On March 27th, Celebrity Apex made history after it became the first-ever ship to be virtually delivered.
Eighteen months after laying the keel, Celebrity Apex was virtually handed off from the team at the Chantiers de l’Atlantique shipyard in France to the Celebrity Cruises family.
As the second ship of our Edge-series class, Celebrity Apex includes several of the groundbreaking features that previously debuted on Celebrity Edge, including The Magic Carpet, a roving outdoor deck; the Theater, a revolutionary space with moving backdrops and LED screens; and Eden, a restaurant meets bar meets performance space covered in lush greenery.
With the use of video conferencing technology, Royal Caribbean’s Chairman and CEO Richard Fain, Celebrity Cruises’ CEO Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, and others welcomed Celebrity Apex, her captain, and the crew to the family, and together celebrated the traditional flag ceremony online.
“While the circumstances are quite unique for this delivery,” wrote Lutoff-Perlo in an email to the company, “the day is no less special.”

Celebrity Apex’s First Completed Sea Trial Far Exceeds Expectations

The new vessel in our Edge-class series completed its first successful sea trial. Sea trials are conducted a few weeks before a ship’s debut to test its performance and efficiency on open water. They’re also one of the last milestones a vessel must complete before being deemed ready to set sail.
Celebrity Apex’s trial took place in the Bay of Biscay between February 4th to 8th and far exceeded expectations. The trial was conducted by Celebrity Apex Captain Dimitris Kafetzis, who praised the beauty and advanced technology of the new ship, which has a revolutionary parabolic ultra-bow that allows it to sail smoothly through harsh winds and strong currents.
Celebrity Apex’s Culinary Reveal: Craft Beers, Daniel Boulud, and More

As the inaugural sailing of Celebrity Apex approaches, it’s time to look at the many exciting culinary experiences and venues that will be offered onboard this revolutionary new ship.
Craft Social Bar is one of the new venues on Celebrity Apex and will serve wines on tap, rare beers, and craft cocktails, plus a delicious menu of elevated comfort food items, including mac and brie, Kobe beef sliders, and charcuterie boards.
Travelers will be happy to hear that the Magic Carpet, the cantilevered deck that debuted on Celebrity Edge, will also be open for wining and dining on Celebrity Apex, where cruisers will enjoy updated menu items with the same breathtaking view from above.
Le Petit Chef, Celebrity’s 3-D animated dining experience at Le Grand Bistro, has been revamped to tell a new interactive story about the tiny French chef that dances and prances on the tables of the restaurant.
At Eden, the restaurant that combines world-class food with enthralling performance, new flavor-focused dishes will include entrees and desserts made from fresh ingredients from local farms and fisheries.
On Celebrity Apex, you’ll find signature dishes from Chef Daniel Boulud at Luminae, The Retreat’s exclusive restaurant, and his Chef’s Table menu, an exquisite five-course meal with wine pairings designed by Boulud.
Celebrity Apex’s Thrilling Entertainment Options Announced

Why settle for Broadway when you can watch high-caliber shows while traveling the world aboard Celebrity Apex? On Apex, you can watch three new stage shows in stunning venues featuring state-of-the-art technology.
Most shows on Celebrity Apex will be performed in The Theater, a breathtaking venue with a giant, curved LED screen and cutting-edge laser projectors where you’ll enjoy an immersive 360-degree experience.
Productions in The Theater include Crystalize, a light inspired show that combines visual projections and gravity-defying acrobatics; Rockumentary, where performers showcase rock n’ roll’s great moments in history; and Tree of Life, a heartwarming visual story that projects universal life events on a 20-foot tall tree with 3,000 LED leaves.
At Eden, take in a variety of performances and interactive experiences throughout the day, such as guided meditations in the morning, afternoon tea parties, and fun art nights and live shows during the evenings.
Meanwhile, cabaret fans will appreciate the debut of Caravan, an intimate show that combines circus acts, aerial acrobatics, and alluring dance routines at The Club, where you can also participate in a number of entertaining activities throughout the day, including archery lessons, video dance classes, and karaoke.
Celebrity Apex Godmother Announced

Celebrity Cruises has named Girls Who Code CEO and Founder Reshma Saujani the godmother of Celebrity Apex, our newest cruise ship that will be making its first voyage this spring.
Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization that seeks to close the gender gap in technology, was founded by Saujani back in 2012. Since then, Girls Who Code has helped educate over 185,000 girls through their innovative coding clubs, STEM summer programs, and college loops. College-aged Girls Who Code alumni are majoring in computer science and STEM-related fields at 15 times the national average.
Aside from her educational organization, Saujani is also known for being the first Indian American woman to run for U.S. Congress, and for her viral TED talk, “Brave, Not Perfect,” which later became an international bestselling book.
