The Design

To help us take luxurious to new heights, we carefully selected a team of the world’s best designers based on their portfolios as well as their inexperience with cruise ships and cruising.

That’s right. We sought out designers who were new to the cruise industry, because we wanted to ensure every aspect of Edge® would be a departure from traditional thinking about cruising. And we got exactly that with the team of Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku.

Together, the team of Jouin Manku is celebrated for drawing inspiration from a multitude of cultures and for merging cutting-edge technology with old-world craftsmanship. One of the fundamental values of their agency is reinventing itself with each project by working on a unique conception.

Jouin Manku's Design on Edge

A perfect example of Jouin Manku’s transformational design on Celebrity Edge is The Grand Plaza, a majestic, open, three-story venue inspired by the piazzas of Italy and home to our incredible specialty restaurants, bars, cafes, and more. Offering a different experience every time you visit, the one constant will be the welcoming, social atmosphere and the invigorating energy of everyone coming together to savor a taste of the good life.

The Pendulum

One of the most meaningful installations on Celebrity Edge is simple in concept—but not in design.Designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku elegantly interpreted the concept of a pendulum to create a breathtaking masterwork in the Grand Plaza. Crafted to subtly echo the rhythm of the ocean outside, The Pendulum is sure to mesmerize as it reflects the movement of the ship.

The Exposed Corridor

In the corridor that leads to and from The Grand Plaza, Jouin Manku created an installation that’s so much more than another hallway. It exposes the bare hull of the ship, and tells the story of this incredible vessel’s beginning— complete with welders’ touches, architects’ markings, and engineers’ notes. Depending on the direction you approach it, the corridor transforms. One way: the stark beauty of the ship’s steel bones, the other: a sleek, modern design that presents a striking contrast and blends seamlessly with the ship’s décor.
