Author's Note

While I mostly travel solo these days, some of my favorite memories come from trips I shared with a significant other. Whether it was a laid-back stay in St. Kitts and Nevis or an adventure-filled getaway to Cozumel, some destinations are simply meant to be shared. If you’re planning a trip this November, here are a few of my top picks for couples.

From award-winning beaches to ancient ruins dating back thousands of years, some of the best places to visit in November for couples offer a perfect mix of relaxation, culture, and adventure. In the Caribbean, destinations like the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic offer warm weather, white-sand beaches, and plenty of opportunities for outdoor adventure.

While Europe may be cooler, cities like Lisbon, Naples, and Barcelona are less crowded during the shoulder season and can feel more relaxed. Meanwhile, in the Southern Hemisphere, November marks the start of summer, making destinations like the Galápagos Islands ideal for exploring wildlife and creating new memories together.

St. Lucia

St Lucia, one of the best places to visit in November for couples

St. Lucia

Renowned for its lush landscapes and natural beauty, St. Lucia has a lot to offer couples. Among the island’s most romantic spots is Marigot Bay. Enjoy a seafood lunch at one of the waterside restaurants or embark on a private catamaran tour.

One of the best things to do in St. Lucia for couples is visit the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens and Mineral Baths. Located in Soufrière, this six-acre private park offers a serene retreat from the more crowded beaches. Couples can hike to the waterfalls or soak in the mineral baths that have been used for centuries.

Couples who enjoy hiking will appreciate the views of the Pitons, two volcanic peaks that form a mountainous ridge. The larger peak is called the Gros Piton, and the smaller of the two is called the Petit Piton. It’s a great spot for photos or to simply enjoy the view.

St. Thomas

Another romantic destination for couples to visit in November is St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Magens Bay Beach is regularly listed among the world’s best beaches, and for good reason.

The bay is heart-shaped and features calm waters that are ideal for swimming and paddleboarding. Pack a picnic for two and enjoy it under the shade of a palm tree.

To explore the cultural side of St. Thomas, head to Charlotte Amalie. As the capital of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the largest city, there are several points of interest. Learn about the island’s history at Fort Christian or explore the shops on Main Street. In between sightseeing, stop by one of the city’s rooftop bars for a bird’s-eye view of the harbor.

If time permits, take the ferry from St. Thomas to St. John and head to Trunk Bay for the ultimate beach break. The bay is surrounded by stunning scenery, from its turquoise waters and colorful reefs to its powdery white sand and green hills in the distance.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, one of the best places to visit in November for couples

Lisbon, Portugal

Cobbled streets, colorful tiled facades, and historic trams make Portugal’s capital romantic by any measure. Alfama, Lisbon’s oldest district, is also one of its most charming. Couples can spend hours wandering through narrow alleyways, hidden courtyards, and traditional restaurants. Head to the Miradouro de Santa Luzia for panoramic views of the city and the Tagus River.

While in Lisbon, be sure to spend time exploring the Jerónimos Monastery, a masterpiece of late Portuguese Gothic architecture. Inside, you’ll find the Church of Santa Maria, the tomb of Vasco da Gama, the National Archaeology Museum, and the cloisters.

St. Kitts & Nevis

These two islands are ideal for couples seeking both adventure and culture. Start your day with a visit to Romney Manor, which was once owned by ancestors of Thomas Jefferson and is now home to the Caribelle Batik workshop. It’s a chance to watch local artists prepare designs using the centuries-old process of batik, a traditional method of hand-painting cotton using pens dipped in hot beeswax.

There are several romantic lookout points in St. Kitts and Nevis as well. Brimstone Hill Fortress is a UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 17th century and offering panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea. To see the Atlantic Ocean meet the Caribbean Sea, head to the Timothy Hill Lookout.

Tangier, Morocco

Morocco is a once-in-a-lifetime trip for many couples and in November, should still be enjoying mild weather. A stroll through Tangier’s Medina and Kasbah offers an immersive intro to local life and is a great place to shop for souvenirs.

For something quieter, head to nearby Tétouan, known for its blend of Moroccan and Andalusian influences. Sip mint tea at a local café, snap photos of intricate architecture, or lose yourselves in the winding medina streets.

Less than an hour’s drive away is Asilah, a fortified town on Morocco’s Atlantic coast. If you need a reminder of Asilah’s Spanish past, look no further than the Rioja, tortilla, and paella served at many local restaurants.

Taste organic Dominican coffee at one of the local cafés or peruse the shops for unique souvenirs including beautiful jewelry made from amber, fossilized tree resin millions of years old, found naturally here.

For a bit of outdoor adventure, sign up for a guided tour of 27 Charcos de Damajagua, or Damajagua Waterfalls. Make sure to wear comfortable clothes, swimwear, and bring a waterproof day pack, as you’ll be sliding down natural rock chutes into cooling pools.

Hanoi, Vietnam

Hanoi has long been considered a city of romance and November, after the end of the rainy season, is an ideal time to visit. First-time travelers can gain a wealth of knowledge about the country’s history and culture at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum Complex. The complex features botanical gardens, memorials, and monuments, and most visitors spend between one and two hours there.

Next, take a stroll through Hanoi’s Old Quarter, which easily transports you back in time. The streets are narrow and branch out in all directions, with colonial-style buildings taking center stage. There are also many cafés, restaurants, and shops to explore; the Vietnamese love their coffee shops and patisseries, a legacy of the French colonial era.

Cozumel is also home to some of the world’s best snorkeling and diving spots, including Colombia Reef and Chankanaab Reef. The reefs in Colombia are deeper and more vibrant, while Chankanaab is ideal for beginners or couples seeking calm, clear waters.

For a more urban beach break, hop on the ferry to Playa del Carmen. Shop along 5th Avenue or simply lounge on the white-sand Punta Esmeralda Beach.

Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona, one of the best places to visit in November for couples

Barcelona, Spain

In Barcelona, it’s all about the views. Both locals and travelers flock to the Bunkers del Carmel for sweeping views of the city’s skyline. For a look at the buildings up close, take a guided walking tour through the historic neighborhoods, such as the Gothic Quarter and El Born.

Another great way to explore Barcelona is through the masterpieces of Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí. The Sagrada Família requires booking tickets in advance, although November should be less busy than the height of summer. Two other Gaudí landmarks to see are Casa Batlló on Passeig de Gràcia and Casa Milà, also known as La Pedrera.

Couples can also join a cooking class to learn how to make Spanish staples like paella and tapas. Just outside the city, several vineyards offer wine tastings in a peaceful setting.
