The best way to get around in Los Angeles is by car, as there aren’t many public transportation options that will take you all around the city. The bus system has several routes, but it’s important to account for traffic delays, no matter what form of transportation you choose. Therefore, booking a shore excursion is a smart way to guarantee that you’ll arrive at your ship on time.2
If you have dreams of sauntering down Rodeo Drive with your arms full of bags, head to the famous Beverly Hills area, which is full of luxury boutiques and designer brands. If you want to do some serious shopping without dropping a small fortune, head to Venice Beach and Santa Monica, where you’ll find an assortment of popular brand names mixed with affordable boutiques and beachwear shops.3
The official currency of Los Angeles is the U.S. dollar, and you will find many ATMs all around the city. Tipping 15% to 20% of your total bill is customary for restaurants and taxi service, and most locals leave closer to 20%. It’s common to see a tip jar at eateries and cafes with counter service. Hundreds of Victorian homes line the steep, wooded hillsides of America's oldest settlement west of the Rockies. Stroll through the revitalized 1920's-era downtown of this picturesque community set at the mouth of the Columbia River, or travel a few miles to Fort Clatsop, where Lewis and Clark encamped during the winter of 1805-06.

Taxis are available after you leave the port, and taxis can drop you off outside of the port entrance. There aren’t too many taxis on the ground in Astoria, however. A more common way of getting around is the trolley, which can take you to and from downtown for just $1.00 each way. Access to the trolley is just a short walk from the port entrance. The trolleys are popular, so be prepared for short waits during peak visiting season.2
As one of Oregon’s smallest towns, Astoria is quaint and unfussy. You won’t find much shopping at the Port of Astoria itself, but take the trolley downtown to find more shops and things to do in Astoria.3
While on cruises to Astoria, Oregon, the official currency is the U.S. Dollar (USD), and you’ll find an ATM about a ten-minute walk from the port. Credit cards like MasterCard and Visa are two widely accepted forms of payment as well. For overseas visitors, note that tipping is used at bars and restaurants when you’re traveling to the United States. Ships dock at Pier 91 in Smith Cove Cruise Terminal—an old naval base about two miles north of downtown Seattle. You’re close to the Magnolia neighborhood here, where you’ll find independent boutiques and gift shops, while the downtown area, with a much wider variety of options, is around 10 minutes’ drive by taxi.3
Seattle has the same tipping culture as the rest of the U.S. Expect to tip 15% to 20% in restaurants, 10% to 15% in bars, and around 15% in taxis. A suitable tip for a good tour guide is 10% to 20% of the total cost of the tour.Victoria, British Columbia

It’s pretty easy to see plenty of downtown Victoria on foot, but many rent bikes to get around the city since there are an abundance of biking trails. There’s also a shuttle available to take cruise passengers from the port to downtown, and taxis are available on your cruise to Victoria, BC.2
The closest shopping to the Ogden Point port is the Beaver Gift Shop. It’s open during peak season from April to October and offers many of the souvenir items you might need, including handy items like umbrellas, hats, and gifts for back home. In downtown Victoria, go shopping at the Bay Centre on Government Street, which is just off the shuttle bus route. Bay Centre has higher-end items like jewelry, fine chocolates, clothing boutiques, and more.3

The Translink service incorporates bus, SeaBus, and the rapid transit SkyTrain, all of which can be managed by a single app. There are public bicycles to rent, and the city has plentiful bike lanes, so cycling is well managed. Uber and Lyft are both available. For a treat, take a seaplane ride and admire the city and mountains from above.2
The Canada Place cruise ship terminal is located in Vancouver’s downtown area, where you’ll find the upscale CF Pacific Centre Mall and Robson Street, which is full of stylish boutiques. In Gastown, you can look for unique and authentic pieces of Northwest Coast Native and Inuit art at the Inuit Gallery. There are no shops in the cruise terminal itself, although the small Waterfront Centre Mall adjacent to Canada Place has a food court and shops for essentials and souvenirs.3
The currency in Vancouver is the Canadian dollar. Although there is no foreign exchange service at the cruise terminal, you will find several ATM machines. There are exchange services throughout downtown Vancouver, as well as ATMs in hotels, banks, drug stores, and other venues.
