Orlando (Port Canaveral), Florida

When you sail to the Caribbean from Cape Canaveral, it’s worth arriving a day or two earlier to experience everything there is to see and do. Check out the charming lifestyle of nearby Cocoa Beach. Work on your tan before your cruise at one of the oceanfront resorts. Enjoy local seafood at the numerous rustic restaurants located on the water. Climb the four-story Exploration Tower at the Port for one of the best views of the ocean. Plus, no stay in Cape Canaveral is complete without visiting the area’s main attraction, the Kennedy Space Center, where you can meet an astronaut or even watch a rocket launch. Or since you’re less than an hour away from Orlando, you can visit the nearby theme parks to add even more wonder to your unforgettable Caribbean vacation.
Travel Tips
1
A rental car gives you the freedom to explore as you please and is a good idea if you’re staying in the area before or after your cruise. All the major companies operate here. In downtown Orlando, the I-Ride Trolley runs back and forth along International Drive, giving access to multiple restaurants, shops, hotels, and other attractions. In Port Canaveral itself, there’s a shuttle service to Cocoa Beach and Merritt Island. You’ll also find rideshare service here.
2
You’ll find an abundance of shopping opportunities in Orlando, specifically on International Drive, at Disney Springs, and in the outlet malls. You’ll find everything from designer labels to factory outlet bargains. Nearer Port Canaveral, visit Cocoa Village for local art and bright, whimsical tropical clothing and homeware. Ron Jon Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach sells all you need for surfing. The gift shop at the Kennedy Space Center is a fantastic place for quirky gift ideas, from freeze-dried ice cream to model rocket kits. Around 30 minutes from the port, The Avenue Viera is an open-air retail center with some big names, while Merritt Square Mall, just 15 minutes away, is great for big department stores and specialty shopping.
3
The currency in Florida is the U.S. Dollar. Credit cards are widely accepted. Tipping here is customary, as it is all over the United States. Leave 15-20% in restaurants for good service and tip taxi drivers and tour guides, too.

Key West, Florida

Ernest Hemingway made wild, colorful Key West his home, and you will want to do the same. Home to modern-day adventurers, artists and poets, the island's charming Old Town teems with restaurants, bars and unique shops. Add pristine coral reefs, coconut palms and a laid-back attitude that's truly contagious, and it's easy to see why so many visitors to Key West never leave.
Travel Tips
1
Key West is only about four miles long and two miles wide, which means tackling the city on foot isn’t such a daunting idea. But there are plenty of other ways to see Key West, like the Old Town Trolley. This simple hop-on, hop-off trolley service runs all day. You can also rent bikes or scooters to catch the breeze while you explore. By-the-minute pedicabs are scattered throughout the town, while Uber and Lyft both operate here. For a sightseeing tour packed with narrative and local gossip, take the Conch Tour Train, which has been ferrying visitors around town since 1958.
2
While on cruises to Key West, Florida, you’ll find no shortage of souvenir shacks, roadside T-shirt vendors, and Florida-related memorabilia celebrating and embracing Key West’s quirkiness. Head to Duval Street for the majority of shops, independently-owned boutiques, and galleries in the city. Or shop at Mallory Square for interesting goods like sandals and surf gear. You’ll also find pottery, stylish resortwear, handmade jewelry, art prints, and items made from sea glass. And while you wouldn’t carry a slice of Key lime pie home with you, there are plenty of food items for sale infused with its flavor, from taffy to handmade cookies.
3
Key West’s official currency is the U.S. dollar (USD), and ATMs are widely available. Credit cards are accepted in most places as well. Tipping in Key West is similar to other U.S. destinations. Leave a 15-20% tip at restaurants and bars. Don’t forget to tip your barista for your morning café con leche, too. Carry a little bit of cash for your tour guide or taxi driver.

Day at Sea Highlights

Falmouth, Jamaica

Encounter Georgian architecture, African culture, cool waterfalls, and blissful beaches around Falmouth, a town forged by flames, rebellions, and pirates. At the redeveloped cruise port, enjoy Jamaican rhythms, local crafts, and duty-free shopping. Cruise to Jamaica and uncover rich colonial history at the 18th-century Good Hope Estate up in the hills, or ride a 30-foot bamboo raft along the lazy Martha Brae River. East of town, discover ancient rock formations at Green Grotto Caves, then continue on to iconic Dunn’s River Falls, where you can climb up the steps as the water rushes all around you. Head west on a scenic drive to Montego Bay, passing the infamous Rose Hall Great House, former home of the White Witch, then taking a swim at Doctor’s Cave Beach. Jamaican cuisine runs mild to wild, a result of British, Spanish, and African traditions. The mild staple of breakfast or lunch is ackee—a fruit with the taste and texture of scrambled eggs—with salt fish. On the wild side is jerk, the legendary flavor of Jamaica—spicy hot, mildly smoky, a little sweet—invented by runaway slaves, now popular around the world, adding a distinctly Jamaican kick to chicken, lamb, pork, fish, even veggies.
Travel Tips
1
At the cruise port, there are buses, minibuses, and taxis ready to take visitors to the many natural attractions and beaches nearby. Keep an eye out for taxis with a JTB decal, which have been authorized by the Jamaica Tourist Board. When you book a shore excursion, transportation is included.
2
As soon as you disembark your ship in Falmouth, you’ll be able to shop at the Falmouth cruise port and its selection of duty-free shops. There’s also a colorful craft market in the center of the port, where you’ll find handmade souvenirs, artifacts, and jewelry. Things to look out for include coffee from the Blue Mountains, Jamaican rum, jerk seasonings and spices, local carvings and batik, Rastafarian cultural items, Bob Marley memorabilia, and Tortuga rum cakes.
3
The official currency in Jamaica is the Jamaican Dollar, but U.S. Dollars are accepted in many tourist destinations. Credit cards and debit cards are also accepted in most tourist areas, but it’s always a good idea to have some local currency on hand. Consider tipping anywhere from 15% to 20% for good service. Some places accept tips in both Jamaican and U.S. dollars.

George Town, Grand Cayman

No destination blends global finance with the Caribbean lifestyle quite like the Cayman Islands. This upscale destination offers world-class restaurants, designer boutiques, and duty-free shopping, plus white sand beaches, brilliant blue waters, and teeming coral reefs. Enjoy postcard views of George Town, Seven Mile Beach, and West Bay from the custom-designed Cayman Explorer. You can step down easily into shallow waters to interact with the welcoming stingrays.

Launch your snorkeling adventure from a luxurious catamaran. Swim right through the World War II naval vessel USS Kittiwake, now a shallow artificial reef. Finish with leisurely sunbathing and cool cocktails. Swim with the denizens of Stingray City in the crystalline waters of Coral Reef Gardens. After snorkeling with the graceful rays, recharge with an island barbecue on Seven Mile Beach. You'll shop till you drop in the duty-free boutiques of George Town. Find gifts for everyone—including yourself—like china, crystal, jewelry, antiques, and resort wear by renowned designers.

Conch shells were the homes of tasty mollusks. Try Cayman conch in salads, chowders, and fritters. Cruises to Grand Cayman Islands are not complete without a sample of the rich Caribbean curries, and don't miss the fresh produce: coconut, cassava, and plantains. For dessert, have some rum cake.
Travel Tips
1
The easiest way to get around Grand Cayman if you’re not joining a shore excursion is by taxi, and you’ll find cars waiting at the port. There’s also a local ride-sharing service, for which you’ll need to download an app. Otherwise, the island has an efficient bus network, with minibuses operating multiple routes to all the main attractions. You can wait at a bus stop or simply flag the driver down. Mopeds, bicycles, and quad bikes are available to rent, but remember that driving is on the left here.
2
George Town has a wide range of elegant shops, many specializing in high-end jewelry and luxury labels. Be on the lookout for colorful Caribbean art, antique maps, and even shipwreck coins. Local jams, spicy sauces, and rum cakes make great gifts to take home. For something really unusual, look for jewelry made from Caymanite, a gemstone that comes in a spectrum of earthy colors. It’s found only in the Cayman Islands and made into beautiful bracelets, necklaces, earrings, and cufflinks by local craftspeople.
3
The local currency in the Cayman Islands is the Cayman Islands dollar, which is pegged to the U.S. Dollar at $1.20 U.S. to $1 Cayman. Most places will display prices in both currencies. You’ll find that U.S. dollars are widely accepted, although you may be given change in local currency. There are ATMs in George Town if you need cash. Regarding tipping etiquette, meanwhile, 10% to 15% is typical in restaurants, and $5 to $10 per person for tour guides.
