Road Town, Tortola
Tortola is the largest and most populated of the British Virgin Islands (BVI), a group of islands that form part of the archipelago of the Virgin Islands. The BVI has over 50 islands with the largest being Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Anegada, and Jost Van Dyke.
Being an archipelago, Tortola has no bordering countries. Its nearest neighbors are Bermuda to the north, Anguilla to the east, U.S Virgin Islands to the south and southwest and Puerto Rico to the west. On his second voyage for the Spanish Crown to the Caribbean and West Indies, Christopher Columbus named the island Tórtola, meaning “turtle dove” in Spanish. While today a British Territory, surprisingly the British Virgin Islands use the US Dollar as their official currency. Tortola will be included in Celebrity Edge Eastern Caribbean itineraries beginning in 2018.
