Festivals in Europe on Land or at Sea
One of the best and easiest ways to see festivals in Europe is on a cruise vacation. You’re probably thinking…wait, how can I see a festival if I’m on a ship? Well, certain cruise itineraries are put together based around a particular Europe festival or event and even includes overnights in port so you can fully experience the festival. There are also special cruises that feature festivals on board during which performers sail on the cruise with you and conduct shows just for the passengers on board.
Cruise to Festivals in Europe on a Signature Event Sailing
Signature Event Sailings are one such way to cruise to festivals on land in Europe. Signature Event Sailings are a series of cruise itineraries put together by Celebrity Cruises each year. These unique cruises are based around festivals in Europe or other special events, such as a sporting competition.
In 2018, Celebrity Cruises will be sailing to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo festival in Edinburgh, Scotland. This is one of the most popular festivals in Europe and is full of music, fun, and excitement.
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place in front of the impressive Edinburgh Castle and features musicians and performers from around the world, with an emphasis on performances by Scottish regiments. It is a visual and musical spectacular.
The word “tattoo” in the name doesn’t refer to inking your body. In this case, it is the traditional term given to the sound the drums made when signaling British soldiers to return to their quarters. Now that sound brings people from all over the world to the annual festival in Edinburgh, which takes traditional military sounds and turns them into musical numbers.
While at the festival, you'll have the chance to see performances by the Bands of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines, military precision displays, folkloric dance performances, and reenactments of historic moments in Scotland’s history.
There’s also an option to upgrade your experience at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo to a VIP one with Celebrity Cruises, which gets you prime seating at the festival and also includes a 3-course dinner and whiskey tasting.
This year, the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo takes place from August 3, 2018, to August 25, 2018. The Signature Event Sailing for the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo departs August 6, 2018, and will be in Edinburgh during the festival from August 9 to August 10. Cruisers who wish to attend can purchase tickets to the festival through Celebrity Cruises. Think of it as an extra special shore excursion while in port!
Your Europe cruise to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo will be on board Celebrity Eclipse, one of the ships part of Celebrity Cruises’ award-winning Solstice-class of ships. The cruise departs from Amsterdam, Netherlands, and along the extended port of call in Edinburgh, it will visit Inverness, Scotland; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Liverpool, England; Dublin, Ireland; Cork, Ireland; and St. Peter Port in the Channel Islands before ending back in Amsterdam.
Other Signature Event Sailings coming up in 2018 include the British Open and 2018 World Soccer Tournament. For the British Open you’ll have extra days in Edinburgh, which is close to Carnoustie, Scotland, where the golf tournament takes place. The Signature Event Sailing for the World Soccer Tournament includes two overnight stays in St. Petersburg, Russia, during which you can take in the third-place soccer match for the tournament. These two events are sure to be a hit with sports lovers and you’ll also visit other popular cruise ports in Europe during the sailing.
Celebrity Cruises has also previously sailed to other festivals in Europe, including the iconic Cannes Film Festival in the beautiful south of France.
