Makowiec is a sweet yeast bread roll with a rich poppyseed filling that’s a must on holiday tables in Poland. Hungary, Slovakia, and Czech Republic have similar sweetbreads, and the bread is often made with alternate fillings of minced walnuts or chestnuts along with raisins, honey, and spices.
