OVERVIEW: A trip to Mount Etna is a highlight for any visitor to this area. HIGHLIGHTS: You'll pass lava fields on your way to Silvestri Spent Craters where you will be able to walk along the crater's rim. You will also visit a jewelry factory and see artisans at work. NOTES: The tour involves walking uphill for approx. 330 yards on uneven terrain. Throughout this tour, you will be at high altitudes (6,000 feet) and you must judge your abilities accordingly. Closed toe shoes are recommended for walking along the crater and due to the altitude, a light jacket or sweater in summer and a warm jacket in winter are recommended.

The ascent, higher than 6,400 feet, is not recommended for those suffering from heart diseases and/or high blood pressure.

NOTES: In Taormina, all touring must be done on foot. Guests must be able to walk approx. 300 yards on uneven and cobblestone surfaces with 45 - 60 steps to reach the wine cellars.

Taste of Sicily: Mt Etna & Taormina, MY29, Sicily (Messina), Italy
OVERVIEW: Enjoy a scenic ride to Mount Etna. Your tour continues with a visit to the ancient town of Taormina. HIGHLIGHTS: Take a scenic 2-hour ride to the Mount Etna volcano. At the Silvestri Spent Craters you'll be able to walk along crater's rim. In Taormina you can stroll the ancient town, browse the boutiques and visit the ancient Greek Theater on your own. NOTES: This tour involves approximately 1.5 hours on your own in Taormina. There is approximately 200 yards of incline from the bus parking lot to the village gates. At Mount Etna caution is advised when walking across lava and rocky ground. Tour order may vary but all listed sites will be covered.

Important: Please remember you have up to 4 days prior to your sail date to purchase your regular shore excursions online. If you are within the 4 days, you will then need to purchase your shore excursions onboard; land excursions would need to be purchased directly through your Tour Director on the land portion of the Alaska Cruisetour. For example, if you are sailing on October 18, you can make Shore & Land Excursion purchases online until October 13.
