OVERVIEW: Visit the fascinating ancient ruins of Pompeii. The city is preserved in time and has become one of the most famous excavation sites in the world. You will get the feel for what life was like nearly 2,000 years ago. You'll see the artifacts, architecture and frescos preserved in this Roman city by the eruption of Mt. Versuvius in 79 AD. HIGHLIGHTS: Explore one of the world's most amazing archaeological wonders at Pompeii. NOTES: Guests must be able to walk approximately 1.5 miles over cobblestone and rocky streets. There is a steep incline at the entrance with 20 - 25 steps. Pompeii is not wheelchair accessible.

The Ruins of Herculaneum, NP06, Naples, Italy

OVERVIEW: This guided walking tour explores the unusually well-preserved city of Herculaneum, also a victim of the fiery temper of Mt. Vesuvius, which was accidentally discovered in 1709. HIGHLIGHTS: Unlike the ash and lava that devastated Pompeii, Herculaneum was covered by a torrent of mud, which protected the ruins from atmospheric agents and illegal excavators. This natural preservation provides a fascinating and intimate look into the Roman's private life in ancient times. Time permitting; you'll stop at a cameo factory. NOTES: Guests must be able to walk approx. 1.5 miles over cobblestones and uneven ground. Herculaneum is not wheelchair accessible.
