The Jostedal Glacier National Park is the largest ice field in mainland Norway and a remnant from the last ice age some 18,000 years ago. The Nigard Glacier is one of the arms' of the glacier stretching from the Jostedal Glacier into the valley. This trip takes you from Skjolden along the fjord to Gaupne, then through the narrow Jostedalen valley and up to the Nigardsbreen parking area.
A 45-minute journey from Skjolden leads through the picturesque landscape surrounding Lustrafjordthe innermost branch of the Sognefjord. The area is famous for its fruit and berries due to the relatively mild climate and long summer days. The fruits from this area are delicious, and the leading juices and syrups in Norway are produced here.
