Experience the Faroe Islands in the most fantastic and exciting way-in a specially built, fast and fun RIB boat. After the safety briefing and putting on your suit and life vest, you'll depart the harbor of Torshavn for an adventure in the fjords close to the capital. Motor close under high sea cliffs to get the best possible view of the wildlife. If the weather permits, your skipper will turn into some of the grottoes and between free-standing cliffs. The boat accommodates 12 passengers and reaches speeds up to 40-50 knots-a small-scale, up-close adventure for nature-lovers. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion.
On this tour a Faroese family opens the doors to their home and invites you in. Your hosts will serve light refreshments including e.g. coffee, tea, and homebaked cake. This visit will give you an excellent opportunity to make acquaintance with locals and to see how a Faroese family lives.
From Torshavn, take a 50-minute drive to the north, past idyllic villages and the old whaling station at Air. The only bridge over the Atlantic, as it is sometimes called, spans the narrow channel of Sundini to connect Eysturoy with the larger island of Streymoy. You will pass Eiai and cross the mountains to Gjagv.
We leave Streymoy island through the new underwater tunnel and five minutes later we arrive on Vágar. This trip gives you the chance to see Vágar's changing scenery and to explore its villages. We drive through the villages of Sandavágur, where we visit the church and Miðvágur and before we reach Vatnsoyrar we pass the largest lake in the Faroe Islands. From Bøur we drive up to the the tunnel to Gásadalur, Vágar's westernmost village, which is the last village to be road connected with the rest of the islands infrastructure. We return to Tórshavn via the mountain.
On this tour, you will visits Tinganes, which is the historic part of Torshavn. You will make a short stop at Skansin to explore the old fort before driving up to the beautiful Nordic House cultural centre. You drive through the modern sections of the city and, before you head back to the harbour, stop briefly at a viewpoint overlooking the capital.
The coach will take you to the village of Vestmanna where you board boats and sail out to the bird cliffs. Here is something for all your senses: the sounds of seabirds sea birds, the whispering of the sea and its changing colors, the weather-beaten cliff formations, and the sky touching the peak of the mountain. You sail along the cliff wall into a narrow gorge, where sheer rock walls on both sides rise vertically towards the sky. On the very top of the cliffs, close to the sky, sheep graze completely unimpressed with the spectators. The boat slowly enters one of the many grottoes, and for a moment the daylight disappears.
Important: Please remember you have up to 4 days prior to your sail date to purchase your regular shore excursions online. If you are within the 4 days, you will then need to purchase your shore excursions onboard; land excursions would need to be purchased directly through your Tour Director on the land portion of the Alaska Cruisetour. For example, if you are sailing on October 18, you can make Shore & Land Excursion purchases online until October 13.
