Depart by motorcoach for the one hour journey to Guimaraes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and European Capital of Culture in 2012. Continue with a walking tour through the old city. Oporto is a city with ancient origins that gave its name to the entire country. Its architectural heritage and enviable position near the mouth of the River Douro have made it a UNESCO World Heritage site. Your tour will begin with a panoramic drive through Foz, an exclusive and cosmopolitan waterfront district. Your panoramic drive will continue passing Avenida dos Aliados on the way to the cathedral, originally a twelfth-century Romanesque building adorned with works of art by some of the greatest Portuguese artists. You will then proceed to Ribeira, where you will board one of the characteristic boats known as "rabelos", specially built for navigating the River Douro.
Embark on a comfortable panoramic tour passing by some of Oporto's highlights. After crossing D. Luis Bridge, praise to 19th century's iron engineering, you will arrive at Vila Nova de Gaia to visit one of its port wine cellars and for a taste of this famous wine.
The wine valleys of the Douro and its tributaries provide some of the most spectacular scenery in Portugal. First stop will be at the charming town of Amarante, surrounded by lush vegetation and filled with fine Romanesque architecture. Enjoy a brief walk along the City Hall and the Roman Bridge ending at São Gonçalo Church. After visit there will be free time for leisure before heading Regua, where you will visit a local state and learn more about the Wine production in this region.
