We’re taking advantage of our partnership with Travel + Leisure to get their editors’ recommendations and insider tips on the places you will want to visit. Here are their picks for just one of the 150 destinations they covered.

Must-Sees from the Editors of
Travel + Leisure

Gastown
The city’s most historic neighborhood is known for cobblestoned streets lined with happening restaurants, bars, and boutiques. Order an avant-garde cocktail at speakeasy-style Diamond (di6mond.com) and creative tapas at the tiny Judas Goat Taberna (judasgoat.ca).

Granville Island
Under the Granville Street Bridge, the city’s indoor/outdoor public market is flush with farmers and food artisans selling everything from fresh oysters and loose teas to heavenly chocolates. Surrounding shops include Artisan Sake Maker, where owner Masa Shiroki sells handcrafted rice wine, and the Umbrella Shop, for that Vancouver weather essential.

Stanley Park
The 1,000-acre spread of temperate rain forest occupies the northwest end of the city’s downtown peninsula. Almost completely surrounded by water, the park remains mostly wild; exploring its inner trails among giant ferns and towering cedars is a nature lover’s nirvana.

Bering Sea Crab Fishermen’s Tour
On a three-and-a-half-hour Inside Passage trip aboard an industrial fishing vessel that’s been featured on the Discovery Channel’s Deadliest Catch, you’ll get a firsthand look at how Alaska’s commercial fishermen haul in king crabs, octopus, and even sharks. Guests can also touch prawns, starfish, and other small marine animals before they’re tossed back to sea.

Misty Fjords National Monument
Only accessible by boat or floatplane, the 2.3 million-acre wilderness area features saltwater fjords with 3,000-foot cliffs carved out by glaciers over thousands of years. Travelers can launch kayaks on waters flanked by old-growth forests where porpoise, mountain goat, and black-bear sightings are common.

Zipline Adventure Park
More than just a straightforward harness-and-zipline experience, this aerial ropes course challenges you to climb a 50-foot tower, cross narrow log bridges, and whiz above Ketchikan’s ocean shores and temperate rain forests on seven different lines.

Mendenhall Glacier

Mount Roberts Tramway
The gondola that connects the city center to the top of Mount Roberts will take you on a thrilling ride 1,800 feet above Juneau. From there, you can set off on two miles of hiking trails; golden crab cakes await at the peak at the Timberline Bar & Grill.

Must-Sees from the Editors of

Dyea
This eerie ghost town was a booming gold-mining settlement in the late 1800’s. Its success was short-lived, and today the site is made up of crumbling cabins and a cemetery where victims of an avalanche were buried in 1898. En route to Dyea, stop at the Skagway Overlook for dramatic mountain vistas.

White Pass Summit Excursion
Wind your way past gushing Bridal Veil Falls on the vintage White Pass & Yukon Route Railroad, built in 1898 for the Klondike Gold Rush. It’s three hours of heart-palpitating turns—and the unbeatable, photo-ready views you came to Alaska for.

Yukon Jeep Tour
Channel a 19th-century gold prospector—albeit from the seat of a four-wheel drive Jeep Wrangler—on this rugged off-road adventure. A guide in the lead Jeep narrates via two-way radio; evocatively named sights include Dead Horse Gulch, Bracket Wagon Trail, and Tormented Valley.
