Huaca Pucllana
They may not be as famous as those in Machu Picchu, but these pre-Columbian brick ruins have another remarkable attribute: location. They’re situated in the middle of Lima’s urban landscape, creating a remarkable juxtaposition of ancient and modern times.

Church of San Francisco
This 1672 Baroque church is best known for its system of catacombs, which were uncovered in 1943. The subterranean passageways contain hundreds of thousands of bones, some of which are arranged in elaborate geometric patterns. For a less intense experience, spend some time looking at the nave ceiling, painted in the mudéjar (Moorish-Spanish) style, and the 17th-century monastery library, which houses more than 20,000 antique books.

National Museum of Anthropology, Archaeology, and History
The permanent collection of this national institution spans from Peru’s prehistoric years to modern times and includes ancient silver vessels, stone idols, and well-preserved mummies.
