Puerto Corinto, Nicaragua
Founded in 1858, this port is situated on an island connected to the mainland by bridges. It has beautiful white sand beaches, and thatch-roof restaurants that specialize in fresh, local seafood and locally brewed beer. About 18 miles north, is the dormant Volcan Viejo, a favorite stop for hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. In the center of downtown are many family-run shops and places to pick up handcrafted souvenirs.
