Rosenkrantz Tower and Håkon's Hall
This stone fortress and massive reception hall has guarded the port since the 13th century, when Norway’s King Håkon Håkonsson and his son Magnus ruled. Today, travelers can scale the tower stairs to the roof, an excellent point from which to take in the city views.

Bergen Art Museum
This downtown museum—one of the largest in the Nordic countries—located on Lille (or lake) Lungegårdsvann showcases everything from Renaissance paintings to contemporary sculptures. The Rasmus Meyer Collection counts among its archives pieces by the most important Norwegian artists, including 105 prints and 32 paintings by Edvard Munch.

Fløibanen Funicular
You can hike the switchbacks of Mount Fløyen, Bergen’s dramatic downtown mountain, or you can opt for the funicular. Made up of red and blue carriages with panoramic windows, the railway makes the thousand-foot climb in a matter of minutes. Toast your quick ascent with an alfresco beer on the large terrace of Fløien Folkerestaurant, a café at the top of the peak.
