Port Combination: Southampton, England to Southampton, England

Uncovering authentic local finds and having experiences that make you feel like you’ve really connected with a place are important elements in ensuring an extraordinary vacation. We’re taking advantage of our partnership with Travel + Leisure to get their editors’ recommendations and insider tips on the places you will want to visit. Here are their picks for just one of the 150 destinations they covered.
London Eye
Originally built for the Millennium celebrations, this mammoth observation wheel has 32 dangling pods (each holds 25 people) that gracefully ascend high above the skyline. On a clear day, you can gaze 25 miles into the surrounding countryside, often as far as Windsor Castle.
Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey
The Palace of Westminster’s Gothic Revival building was rebuilt in 1834 after a fire, which fortunately spared medieval Westminster Hall and the Jewel Tower. Tour the Queen’s Robing Room, where she dons the Imperial State Crown before the opening of Parliament, and the Gothic Abbey, the Hall’s neighbor, which embodies British history from 1245 to the 1997 funeral of Princess Diana.
Victoria and Albert Museum
This labyrinthine collection is spread across 12 acres of stately buildings. Set aside an afternoon; there are more than 500,000 photographs and two million pieces of art and artifacts, ranging from Celtic breastplates and contemporary ceramics to oil paintings, play manuscripts, and even a 1995 Jean-Paul Gaultier shorts suit. Check the calendar for blockbuster exhibitions.
Be sure to visit our Shore Excursions page or speak with our onboard Destination Concierge for arrangements to any of these must-sees.
